Additional information

This PCT patent describes a new high-frequency bandwidth extension scheme for speech and audio coding, which was invented principally by Hyunkook Lee. The method selectively uses two bandwidth extension techniques that are optimised for different characteristics of input signal. For speech signals a conventional LPC-based method is used whereas for music/mixed signals 'PSDD' (Hyunkook Lee, WO/2009/078681) is selected. This method solves the typical problem of sound quality degradation in low bitrate audio coding, which occurs when a single bandwidth extension method is used for all source types. Therefore this scheme is ideal for such a hybrid audio-speech codec as USAC.
