This research has resulted in a novel measurement method for large area high precision (nanoscale) specular surface measurement, a technique previously not possible. This published paper represents a new research direction of the author in the field of surface form measurement. It was published in Optical Express, the journal which has the highest impact factor in the field of optics. The work was supported by the Royal Society and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The clear impact of this work is in the area of free form measurement such as large telescope lenses and laser fusion targets.
