Additional information

<23> A novel approach is proposed for the automatic detection of regions visually impaired by ringing artefacts in compressed images. This article contributes new developments in the design of an objective metric that automatically quantifies the perceived annoyance of specific image degradations, and consequently improves the quality performance of digital imaging systems. The approach outperforms existing alternatives so far published in the literature, and provides fundamental principles for assessing visual artefacts in image materials.
