This work was funded by the €2M, Science Foundation Ireland, Charles Parsons Energy Research Awards (06/CP/E002). The paper uses field data captured by phasor measurement units on the Irish power system to analyse the transient performance of two-speed wind turbines. The impact of this output is increased accuracy of power system parameters and improved modelling of wind turbines, which is essential to cater for high wind penetrations ( > 50%) and for the avoidance of instability in future energy systems. This work aided the successful EPSRC bid (EP/K029371/1), small items of research equipment.
