Additional information

This paper is an outcome from a collaboration with Schlumberger Oilfields UK. The proposed control methods improve performance over existing methods for directional drills (Dr Martin Bayliss, Schlumberger Oilfields UK, mbayliss@slb.com). This publication has led to additional industrial grant income of over £150k in 2013 (Chris Bogarth, Schlumberger, bogathc1@slb.com). Patents have been filed for the work (US Patent 20130126239, UK Patent 12/208/419).
