As part of a research programme into the support and maintenance of systems subject to degradation, a novel approach optimises condition based maintenance of such systems with imperfect repair. The distinguishing features are; (i) the results are not restricted to performance measures typical of wear and degradation models, but cover measures, such as a gas turbine's power output, or the maximum demand on system resources; (ii) multiple output characteristics can be combined and are user specified; (iii) decision modelling is simplified by using a performance measure that summarises the system state and by using a scheduling function.
