This paper presents the first application of a novel model of rail-bridge interaction, developed at Newcastle with sponsorship from Mott-MacDonald, allowing the interaction of different scales of irregularity in the rail with the response of the bridge structure to be evaluated for the first time, giving new insights into bridge design and maintenance.
