Additional information

Bioprocess design has traditionally been undertaken on a unit-by-unit basis, ignoring inter-unit interaction. This paper described the results of using modelling agents within an overall plant design framework to improve the performance of the whole process. The novelty of the approach lies in the agent based search approach adopted. This work was carried out as part of EPSRC project “Enhancing Manufacturing by linking models derived from ultra-scale down and early process data via an intelligent agent” (GR/T24005/01; £143k), and is being further developed through the EC funded F3 Factory project (“Flexible, Fast and Future Production Processes”; 228867; Newcastle award £222k)
