Additional information

This paper presents and validates a new physical model of pipeline corrosion, to improve on previous empirical or statistical models. This model allowed, for the first time, separation of abiotic corrosion (that happens in the absence of bacteria) such that the influence of bacteria on the corrosion could be quantified. The model combines effects of fluid flow, corrosion science and chemistry. The research programme was carried out in collaboration with Chevron (co-authors Page and Lawson).
