A proof-of-principle investigation that provides a major direction and sets the agenda for the development of a solvation-based analytical array approach in metabolomics. The approach can be developed to provide rapid, yet very informative data for a wide range of biological and biomedical diagnostic and prognostic applications, in a way currently not possible with existing methodologies.
