The paper presents details of flow simulations within the multi-port symmetrical turn-up vortex amplifier, (STuVA), a novel design of fluidic vortex valve which forms the basis of patents granted to the University (US Patent 6,402,820-B, EP 1,042,708-B1). The valve has been adopted as a key safety feature in the South Korean Advanced Power Nuclear Reactor (APR1400), which is being marketed worldwide and the first of which are scheduled to start commercial operation in 2013 and 2014.
