Additional information

<28> This develops earlier work on distance pastoral care within the Christian Church. Based on Rogers’ work for one-to-one counselling relationships, the present work related it to Christian pastoral care. The study showed that empathetically written e-mails could improve the recipient’s well-being, if s/he was within the first two categories of Rogers’ mental health model. For people with deeper depression, the use of IT was found to be too intrusive and they required the help of another human, preferably alongside the recipient. This work’s significance is that it delineated when personal, one-to-one intervention was required and when e-mail may suffice.
