Additional information

<15> This builds on previous work concerning the safety of fishing vessels and their personnel. A previous study showed that the perceptions of using integrated electronic marine systems (IEMS) within the wheelhouse were fairly negative in terms of improving safety. That study is replicated here using new data, with sharply contrasting results. Perceptions of safety seem to be clearly linked to experience with the IEMS, and the perceptions of IEMS increasing safety outweigh those of cost. This study’s significance is that it shows the importance of replicating studies and that IEMS could play a major part in fishing vessel safety.
