<15> The paper studies 57 SMEs in the ASEAN region, concluding that the service-based SME sector, as a sizable business sector in ASEAN, needs to pay more attention to its intellectual assets and to Knowledge Management (KM) which is rapidly becoming integral to gaining a competitive edge. The study of KM in such fast-developing countries brings useful insights into KM in other countries. The results of this study reinforce previous findings on the importance of KM critical success factors and can help service-based SMEs to understand more fully the KM discipline, to facilitate its adoption and prioritize its implementation.
