Additional information

The novelty of this paper was in conducting the first comprehensive testing of modelling methods against full-scale test data, systematically highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of industrially accepted modelling methods in this field. It resulted from collaboration with the University of Nottingham and the leading group at Polimi on an EU funded project (WEATHER). This study has led to renewed efforts in moving model test realism (including 2 UoB PhD students) and will influence the next generation of cross-wind safety testing in both road and rail.
