<17>This paper is the first in a sequence of three describing the exploration of semantic relations between textual documents. Here, English documents are manually annotated using an event-based ontology extending the CIDOC CRM model. Cross-document similarity is measured using Kullback-Leibler divergence calculated from annotations, i.e., from metadata. The implementation described in the paper has been developed in a joint project with the Bletchley Park museum and, as of September 2013, is still used by visitors for post-visit content exploration.
