<09>We presented this work at an invited tutorial on 'software archaeology' at the GTTSE 2011 summer school. This article describes a substantial study of the 8-year evolution of a plugin-based software architecture. It proposes the first multi-faceted suite of metrics to assess such types of architectures quantitatively against 9 different general software design principles. Developers can thus semi-automatically assess to what degree the architecture follows or deviates from those principles over time.
