Additional information

<17>This work has prepared the pathway for applications through systematic evaluation, critical model assessment, favourable comparison to the state-of-the-art and recommendations for use. In particular, it verifies the preceding 2007 conference paper (http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1282280.1282368, best paper CIVR 2007, not used in the RAE 2008) that voiced the underlying information-theoretic principle for the framework for the first time and that is highly cited (40 according to Google scholar). As such the current paper holds many a promising application for scalable image search in patents and otherwise.
