Additional information

Collaborative projects (EP/D048672/1, EP/D04801X/1) between the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield, have resulted in the demonstration of a glass-on-semiconductor integrated waveguide amplifier. This work describes a femtosecond laser pulse deposition technique to achieve a wavelength tunable random laser material; resulting in US Patent 20,120,225,220. This invention has been exploited for non-invasive glucose monitoring for diabetes, funded by NIHR i4i (II-FS-0909-13095) and has lead to a new patent filing (PCT/GB2013/050300). Both patents have been licensed to NetScientific Plc (gough@netscientific.net) with the establishment of a spin-off company Glucosense Diagnostics Ltd for developing non-invasive biosensors for diabetes patients.
