A novel approach for the preparation of discrete phosphor nanoparticles
The work in this paper was a spinout of an EPSRC and two TSB programmes. The work describes a method of pre-coating precursor phosphor nanoparticles with silica then firing the resulting coated particles. The resulting particles of coated phosphor can then be partially back etched thinning the silica coating and thereby freeing any agglomerated particles. This work was a very useful step in the control of methodology to avoid nanoparticle agglomeration and was a major aid in the group obtaining an EPSERC/TSB challenge grant entitled” Enhanced solar energy harvesting in dye sensitized solar cells using nanophosphors and nano-structured optics (CONVERTED).
