Double-weighted statement

This volume brings together for the first time post-war European cinema and the psychoanalytic method of Jacques Lacan in order to elucidate the filmic representation of sexual difference. The result of three years’ work, in this volume approximately 25 films from 8 different countries receive detailed analysis as there is no explicit correspondence between Lacan’s theories on sexuality and film. Connecting the two fields required in-depth knowledge of the films, Lacanian theory and the development of a new overarching theoretical approach to film. The volume is 120,000 words long.
