John Benson is editor of the 461 page volume Health and Accidents (Pickering and Chatto, 2012), one of six volumes comprising Coal in Victorian Britain, of which he is also the general editor. He was responsible not just for selecting the 36 texts for inclusion, writing a general introduction (pp. xi-xxvi) and presenting a select bibliography (pp. xxvii-xxxv), but also for providing eleven contextualising passages (pp. 1-4, 71-2, 103-6, 131-4, 157-9, 179-81, 203-5, 235-6, 263-5, 361-2, 371-3) and compiling full editorial notes (pp.441-461) - both of which include original research based upon a wide range of primary sources.
