Additional information

The more electric aircraft is hampered by lack of reliability of electrical drive systems. This paper describes a complete fault tolerant electric drive system, which can survive a large range of fault conditions. The drive has been fully demonstrated on an Airbus rig at Filton, to great industrial acclaim. This is applied to the nose wheel steering of an aircraft. Both Airbus and Goodrich (now UTC Aerospace Systems) are developing the concept for future more electric aircraft. UTAS contact: Maamar Benarous, Tel. 01902624509 .
