Efficient BER Reduction Technique for Nonlinear OFDM Transmission Using Distortion Prediction
4G cellular communications signals suffer from nonlinear distortion of solid state power amplifiers due to their high peak-to-average-power ratio, resulting in bit error rate degradation, out-of-band frequency harmonics and inefficient use of radio frequency energy. This research reduces the peak to average power and thus improves bit error rate by predicting the power amplifier generated distortion. It demonstrates significant complexity reduction of ~60% over conventional selective-mapping and partial-transmit sequence methods. The work results from a six year collaboration with the Universities of Khalifa, UAE (Al-Dweik) and Tampere, Finland (Hazmi).
