Double-weighted statement

The book presents a normative theory of the information society that systematically integrates perspectives from information management, journalism and media studies, philosophy, sociology, law and computer science. It offers a synthesis for the development of information policy, with major implications for social structure. Justification for double-weighting lies in its extent and its complexity. Citing circa 400 sources, mainly scholarly, the argument is developed from sustained, detailed accounts of existing positions and the complex relations between them. The book incorporates several reworked book chapters and peer-reviewed articles not included elsewhere in the submission (or in RAE 2008), as well as new material.
