Additional information

This paper presents work which extends the methods previously used for modelling the behaviour of a railway wheelset by including flexibility and rotation of the wheelset and a sophisticated model of the contact between the wheel and the rail. The work demonstrates that the results from the new method are significantly different from those produced by existing techniques. The work introduces a novel method which will allow significant reduction in the time required to establish the location of the contact point between a wheel and rail in motion.
