Additional information

This paper demonstrates a multi-load acoustic method to determine the pressure signal when a four-cylinder diesel engine, with faults in the fuel injector and exhaust valve, is tested. The paper provides a novel and yet reliable method to achieve monitoring and diagnosis of diesel engine events when operating in a high noise environment such as standby power stations and vessel chambers. The output has led to a highly successful three year collaborative project funded by The Royal Society and the Natural Science Foundation of China and stimulated researchers on pipline system monitoring.
