Additional information

Total hip replacements are designed with different surface textures on stems and have varying in vivo success, through these studies it was noted that the difference in surface finish results in a difference in wear mechanism at the stem-cement interface. This sponsored work (Stryker PI. L Blunt) is instrumental in identifying how this variation in surface finish affects the mechanical interlocking mechanism of the system. This work on total hip replacements has led to key collaborations with DePuy Orthpaedics, UCL, and also generated projects with other industrial bodies in this sector and additionally legal expert witness work.
