Additional information

Freeform non-Euclidean surfaces are rapidly emerging in many different engineering designs and industries such as, optics, turbines, engine parts, biomedical joint and many others. However, most metrology software to asses quality is designed to process simple Euclidean surfaces and will produce errors when applied to freeform surfaces. The work discussed in this paper shows a new method of filtering such surfaces The impact of this funded work (ERC-AdG117228) has been in the uptake of the algorithms by the metrology company Amatek Taylor Hobson for integration into their freeform measurement instruments.
