Additional information

This paper is the second by Sibley dealing with a coding scheme known as Offset Pulse Position Modulation (PPM). This scheme is part of a general investigation into PPM schemes. In an original paper by Sibley (2011), the code was introduced and analysed to some extent. In this paper the analysis has been extended to take account of coding level and bandwidth. It has been shown that offset PPM offers a better sensitivity than digital PPM – a major advance. Further theoretical work on timing extraction and a practical implementation, to prove the theoretical predictions, are being undertaken at present.
