Additional information
<09>Since the 1970s mutation testing has made small syntactic changes in descriptions (typically programs) and determined whether test sets could detect such injected faults (a set's ability to do so is deemed a measure of its effectiveness). This paper is first to investigate mutation of the semantics of the underlying language (modelling, for example, diverging understanding by developers of description language semantics) - a radical shift. This fundamental approach is applicable to descriptions in langauges of any level of abstraction. Early draft was basis for successful collaborative EPSRC grant (EP/G04354X/1 and EP/G043604/1).
