Additional information

Improved PET image quality can be achieved by first measuring and then accounting for the spatial resolution of a PET scanner during image reconstruction. Usually expensive equipment is required for these measurements, exhaustively positioning one point source at different locations in the scanner. This paper proposes a new, efficient and low-cost methodology to measure the scanner's response with a point source array. Benefits include fast simultaneous acquisition of multiple point positions and easy characterization of the scanner's blurring properties. This may even provide a way to enhance scanner quality control and reconstruction on a routine basis.
