Additional information

This study examined the translation of imaging techniques into clinical practice for prediction of outcome in infants suffering birth asphyxia, a critical clinical problem when decisions on the limitation of medical interventions often need to be made. It is the culmination of 20 years work and patient follow-up by Rutherford and Cowan (Neurologist), joint senior authors. As the result of their work MRI is now the standard diagnostic method in this condition and recommended by professional bodies such as the British Association of Perinatal Medicine. This work was published in a leading neurology journal.
