Additional information

Investigation of the flow-metabolic relationship in colorectal cancer by a novel integrated 18F-FDG-PET/Perfusion CT technique found that low flow but highly metabolic cancers demonstrate greater VEGF and HIF-1 expression by histopathology, identifying a more aggressive phenotype. Hence this imaging technique is clinically relevant, and potentially applicable to other cancers. It has provided supportive evidence for further study of 18F-FDG-PET/Perfusion CT’s potential as an early predictive biomarker in locally advanced rectal cancer (FIREARC). This paper is published in one of the two leading journals in nuclear medicine.
