<20>This publication presents a rigourous and thorough analysis of the evaluation of a conversational agent at the end of the EU-funded Companions project. The originality of the work lies in both the presentation of a novel evaluation paradigm, and in the detailed presentation of the results. The significance of the work will be demonstrated as the data provides a benchmark for others to rate their performance against on a number of key metrics such as the level of engagement of users in the conversations and the accuracy and effectiveness of the inferences made by the agent.
