Significance of output:

Understanding the nature of wind flows within urban environments is increasingly important. Without it, determining likely avenues of pollutant dispersion of all kinds is impossible, and developing predictive tools is fraught with danger. This paper reports flow data obtained within the canopy region of a simulated atmospheric boundary layer, showing crucial details of the flow and turbulence there. The work was funded as part of NERC's National Centre for Atmospheric Science and a presentation of some of it won the UK 2009 Osborne Reynolds prize.
