Double-weighted statement

This is the first substantive treatment of the post-Roman history of Hadrian’s Wall, and the way in which it has been imagined, interpreted, and researched by individuals and groups, since the end of Roman military power. It required the collation of a diffuse and previously untapped array of primary data, including published and unpublished antiquarian material scattered through numerous UK museums and libraries. Supported by an AHRC grant from the Landscape and Environment Programme (2007-09), it was described on p. 7 of the AHRC Annual Report 2012-13 as “a field defining work ---- demonstrating real scale and ambition”.
