The final report was forwarded to the Scottish Government and the European Commission, and has since continued to stimulate further debate about windfarms and peat both in the UK and abroad (see URLs below). The Scottish Government subsequently refused permission for the development. The failings of the developer’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) identified by this report reflected a more widespread failure within the scientific community to provide meaningful descriptions of peatland-dominated sites and led to RSPB and statutory environmental agencies commissioning Mr Lindsay to produce RO1.
