Significance of output:

<13>Layered queueing networks are a popular model for the performance prediction of distributed software systems. This paper presents a novel approximate solution technique based on ordinary differential equations. Unlike alternative approximations based on heuristics, this technique is proven to be asymptotically exact. Furthermore, through extensive numerical experimentation it is shown to significantly outperform heuristic approximations in terms of accuracy. This research has led to ca. 260K EUR funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG), project SPP-1593 DAPS (2012-2015).
