Significance of output:

<12>This paper is the first to study overlapping coalition formation in cooperative settings.

It provides theoretical foundation for modelling and analysis of cooperative scenarios where agents are responsible for multiple tasks. This new research line is being pursued by several groups led by Elkind (Singapore), Wooldridge (UK), Larson (Canada)and Kraus (Israel). One of the followups has won the best student paper award at the world-leading multiagent systems conference AAMAS2011.

The mathematical model is supported by real-life scenarios, and theoretical properties are extensively validated and analytically proven. The model is used to analyse team formation and stability in practical multiagent systems.
