Significance of output:

<10>An earlier CONCUR`10 paper introduced a compositional variant of C/E nets, and gave a characterisation of their semantics with a novel process algebra based on connectors. This was the first such characterisation result with a process algebra. Another research team extended the applicability of the approach for general Petri nets in a CONCUR`11 paper.

This paper unifies, simplifies and improves the results. This theoretical work has led to novel compositional approaches to model-checking of asynchronous systems currently under development at Southampton.
