Additional information

In specific reference to this paper, Ҫakmakҫi et al., [Polymer Bulletin 70(2013)1037] noted that “organic-inorganic hybrid materials produced by sol-gel methods are of great interest because they can exploit properties of both the organic (flexibility, toughness) and the inorganic (surface hardness, transparency) components”. Others have referenced the work described in this paper as being an attractive alternative for Cr(VI) processes used to protect aluminium substrates [Wittmar et al., J Sol-Gel Science and Technology 59(2011)621]. This technology is also an environmentally friendly process, noted by Galio et al., [Surface & Coatings Technology 204(2011)1479].
