Mansell was jointly responsible (50%) for the book’s conception and design, was joint (50%) editor, and sole authored a chapter (4,000 words). The book contains two distinct elements. Firstly, there are newly-commissioned critical essays based on papers delivered at a conference held in 2009 at Manchester University. Mansell was the co-organiser (50%) of this conference and was jointly responsible for selecting and editing the final essays. Secondly, the book contains curated primary sources drawn from the BFI, BT and Royal Mail archives, and Mansell was jointly responsible (50%) for this research and curatorial work.
