b) Research was funded by a European consortium grant CRUE ERA-NET with DEFRA the UK contributors. The main questions were set on a Europe-wide basis with the focus of this particular project UK, Germany and Austria to investigate the potential effectiveness of planning and flood insurance to secure better future avoidance of flood risk in areas where there is substantial development pressure.
