Additional information
<23> This paper analyses well-known similarity measures fundamental to pattern recognition. It was found that they were not robust enough to cope with background noise. A novel metric, Posterior Probability Measure (PPM), was proposed to deal with background noise. It was verified by visual tracking experiments that the new PPM outperformed the other measures. This measure has been successfully used in several research and industrial projects, such as visual tracking in a production line at Shris Ltd. The method was developed in the international joint project WiME coordinated by Jiang for wheelchair visual servoing .
