Additional information

Lateral vibration of structures such as grandstands and footbridges has become a prominent issue over the past decade. However, designers are handicapped by the lack of realistic models of the dynamic loads due to human activities. This recent paper, a collaboration with an orthopaedics expert, presents the first dataset of directly measured lateral forces due to human actions, and proposes a new analytical model for use in structural analysis.
