An innovative mobile electronic tourist guide application
<15>Originality: This paper presents a methodology of designing and implementing customisable mobile apps that match user preferences. Once downloaded the apps can run and execute in standalone mode and can be updated when the network coverage is resumed.
Significance: The paper explores the features, advantages and shortcomings of Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) for mobile app development. This work was subsequently widely used and followed by mobile app community (developers and researchers).
Rigour: The findings of this research are confirmed through an iterative-design-approach case study implementation for a “mobile tourism” app. Results published in a leading, peer-reviewed journal.
