Additional information

<15> Originality: This paper describes a novel way to determine objectively and optimally how to divide the time to hospital readmission following discharge. It uses phase-type distributions to model the time to readmission, and a Bayesian classification argument to determine the optimal cut-off in time to readmission that “best” divides it into a high-risk period and a lower-risk period.

Significance: The paper proposes a solution to an important aspect in modelling time to readmission and time to failure

Rigour: Mathematical analyses support model development, along with comprehensive testing on large dataset. Results published in leading peer-reviewed journal.
