Additional information

<04> This paper was the first to assess the suitability of modern multi-core commodity servers as production network appliances and dispelled the long-held belief that software routers were necessarily woefully slow. A landmark paper (as reflected by its citation rate) in the area of software networking systems and paves the way for new ways to build networks, especially in the context of cloud computing. The results presented in this paper also triggered a new collaboration with Intel Labs Berkeley, with Lancaster University becoming a partner of their RouteBricks project. Published in CoNext, a top networking conference (17.4% acceptance, 29/166).
