Multi-cycle recovery of lactoferrin and lactoperoxidase from crude whey using fimbriated high-capacity magnetic cation exchangers and a novel ‘rotor-stator’ high-gradient magnetic separator
The output, which was funded by a European Framework 6 Strategic Targeted Research Project (STREP 013469, NanoBioMag) shows how far the technique of High-Gradient Magnetic Fishing has come since its invention a decade ago, i.e. to the brink of commercialization and on-site testing within the bioprocess industry sector. Its findings played an important role in securing a follow-up 17 partner strong European Framework 7 Large-Scale Collaborative Integrating Project (CP-IP 229335-2, MagPro2Life). The rotor-stator magnetic separator described in this work is currently available as a commercial prototype through PerkinElmer chemagen Technologie GmbH & ABBIS bio process automation (Vulkan Technic Maschinen-Konstruktions GmbH).
